Oyster is a small UK based gap year organization that offers participants a personal experience and is a member of the Year Out Group. We offer paid work in the Australian Outback and Sydney where you can earn a local wage and have a fantastic Gap Year experience. We also offer voluntary placements in a variety of worldwide destinations.

One of Oyster’s main aims is to provide an environment where you can get fully immersed into the culture you are living in. You are not there as a tourist traveling through the country for a few weeks. You are there long enough to get truly under the skin of the country. A Gap Year with Oyster provides the perfect balance between independence and a thorough support and safety net when needed through our dedicated representatives. We have a wide variety of options available to applicants. You could teach and trek in the Himalayas to rehabilitating Brown Bears in Romania. We have voluntary placements in:

And paid placements in Australia.

We take the time to get to know our applicants personally. We always interview our participants by phone (or face to face if in the UK) and brief them thoroughly before departure. We send people as part of a group so that participants have a ready made group of friends.

* In the Outback you will be picked up at Brisbane Airport on any Thursday of the year. On arrival you will be with a group of people for the first week during which time you will rest and receive full training. Most employers will then employ only 1 or 2 people.

For our Sydney placement, you will be picked up from Sydney Airport on the first Sunday of the month.
